At Easy Build, we specialize in the development of prefab modular housing solutions that are not only sustainable but also designed to withstand the unique climate challenges faced by communities in Bangladesh. Our designs are centered around the principles of flexibility, durability, energy efficiency, and renewable energy integration, ensuring that homes can adapt to varying climate conditions while minimizing environmental impact.
Key features of our climate-resilient housing concepts include:
Elevated Foundation: To combat the risks of flooding, particularly in low-lying and coastal areas, our houses are built on elevated foundations. This design reduces the risk of water damage and ensures that the homes remain habitable even during severe floods.
Wind-Resistant Structures: Our modular homes are constructed using high-strength, lightweight materials designed to withstand high wind speeds, including those experienced during cyclones and storms. The aerodynamic design minimizes wind resistance, reducing the likelihood of structural damage.
Thermal Insulation: To address the challenges of extreme heat, our houses are equipped with advanced thermal insulation, which helps maintain comfortable indoor temperatures while reducing the need for energy-intensive cooling systems. This not only enhances comfort but also contributes to energy efficiency.
Solar Electricity: To enhance energy independence and reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources, our homes are equipped with solar panels that generate electricity. This renewable energy solution not only reduces carbon emissions but also provides a reliable power source, especially in areas where the electricity grid is unstable or non-existent.
Design and Modular Solution: For a coastal community in Khulna, Bangladesh, Easy Build developed a series of prefab modular homes specifically designed to address the dual threats of flooding and cyclones. The homes are built on elevated platforms, approximately 1.5 meters above ground level, to prevent floodwaters from entering living spaces. The modular nature of the homes allows for quick and efficient construction, reducing the time residents spend in vulnerable temporary shelters.
Climate Hazards Addressed: The primary climate hazards in this region are frequent flooding due to heavy rainfall and storm surges, as well as high winds associated with cyclones.
Enhancing Resilience:
Flood Mitigation: The elevated foundation prevents water ingress, protecting the structural integrity of the home and ensuring it remains safe and habitable during and after floods.
Cyclone Resistance: The use of high-strength, wind-resistant materials in the construction of the walls and roof ensures that the homes can withstand high wind speeds, reducing the likelihood of damage during cyclones.
Energy Independence: The installation of solar panels ensures that the homes have a reliable source of electricity, even during power outages caused by extreme weather events. This renewable energy solution supports both climate resilience and sustainability by reducing reliance on fossil fuels and enhancing energy security.
Additional Relevant Information: Beyond individual home designs, Easy Build is committed to working with local communities to implement these solutions at scale. We provide training to local builders and craftsmen, ensuring that they are equipped with the skills necessary to construct and maintain these homes. Our approach not only fosters resilience at the household level but also strengthens community resilience by building local capacity.
We believe that our approach to climate-resilient housing can make a significant contribution to the ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable communities in Bangladesh from the impacts of climate change.
