Cooling is a problem for 148 countries across the globe. Given the impact of climate change this number is likely to go up. It has a direct impact on lives and livelihoods. We are starting with India because it is diverse, large and there is an urgent need for alternative cooling technologies. Any built environment in the hot/dry region can deploy our current platform with a direct impact on energy savings and climate change. Current solutions use compressors that use harmful refrigerants and create urban heat island, further complicating the issues.
Our first product is the AMBIATOR 5TR which can cool a space of 750 square feet using only 1 unit of energy, this is 80% lower than the most efficient current technology available in the market today. It is a climate appropriate technology for hot/dry regions – that’s about 70% of India and is Solar ready. It doesn’t use a compressor or any harmful refrigerants and the technology is called dew point regenerative cooling technology. It is a positive scope 4 platform. It is climate appropriate for hot/dry regions across the globe.
How does AMBIATOR 5TR integrated into housing?
– The Ambiator 5TR is designed to seamlessly integrate into both new and existing housing structures. The system can be connected to the building’s existing ductwork or ventilation systems, making it a flexible solution for various architectural designs. The unit itself is compact and can be placed in any area that has access to fresh air.
– Installation Requirements – while the unit itself requires 1 square meter of space, the back door needs to be opened for servicing so we need a 2 x 1 meter space
Climate Resilience
– Enclosed is the GHG calculation sheet for a single AMBIATOR 5TR system. The AMBIATOR 5TR contributes to climate resilience by providing a sustainable cooling solution that reduces reliance on traditional, energy-intensive air conditioning systems. By utilizing solar power, it significantly lowers electricity consumption and reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which are key factors in combating climate change. Additionally, the system’s ability to perform efficiently in extreme climates, including arid and hot regions, ensures that it can maintain comfortable indoor environments even as global temperatures rise. This makes the AMBIATOR 5TR not only an eco-friendly option but also a critical component in building climate-resilient homes and communities that can withstand the challenges of a warming planet.
– A single AMBIATOR 5TR uses 1kW/hr of electricity, this is because the core components used in the system use the following energy – Motor and Fan – 800W, Pump – 120W, Electronics – 50W. And these the max peak load numbers, this is reduced further when the ambient weather conditions improve. Compare this to a packaged AC unit that would consume anywhere from 7.5 – 10kW/hr
Technology
– Included is a diagram of the technology used, it is called Dew Point Regenerative Cooling Technology
In the first stage we do something known as dry cooling where air and water pass through different cross streams and the sensible heat of air is removed using water. This is what we call dry cooling or sensible cooling – it is similar to putting surgical gloves and putting your hands in a bucket of cold water, your hands get cold but not wet. The second stage is nothing but a process to add humidity and further reduce the temperature by another 5-8 degrees centigrade. Since these are deployed in hot/dry climatic conditions, we’re able to maintain a healthy 45-65% humidity in the space we cool.
– Please refer to point 2.1 above. Our embodied carbon is to the tune of 510 kgs FOB Hyderabad and with 4000 hours of use, we mitigate 25000 kgs of CO2 from getting into the atmosphere. We use steel as our primary component which is infinitely recyclable and most of the inner components we use are also recycled material like LDPE. The air that we exhaust is also cooler than the ambient so we do the reverse of the damage caused by Urban Heat Islands and biomimic a tree.
Implementation
– This is implemented in residential houses, 3 storey villa projects, women skill development centre, commercial real estate, kitchens etc. These are all installed in the central south regions of India.
– Locations – Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Jaipur, Warangal
